We teach children to take responsibility for their own lives. For us, freedom means the ability to choose—and the capacity to bear the consequences of that choice.
The joy of learning is just as important to us as knowledge itself. We believe that children learn best when the subject matter makes sense to them personally.
We are a school where children and adults make decisions together. Our relationships are built on respect, partnership, and open dialogue.
Our goal is for children to leave Gaudi as confident and curious individuals. We want them to know their strengths and talents, and to be able to shape their own future—because that is the true competence of tomorrow.
We’re co-founders of the Association of Free Democratic Schools, an organization living the principles of Teal (and guiding others along the way), and practitioners of Nonviolent Communication.

The Story Behind the Name
We dreamed of a school where everyone could create and learn with joy, passion, and enthusiasm. There are many schools that include the word “Joy” in their name—but we turned to Latin, the ancient language of learning, for inspiration. In Latin, Gaudi means joy.
And why the mosaic? Antoni Gaudí was a brilliant Spanish architect, thinker, and innovator. He pursued his vision with unwavering dedication, building in a way that was uniquely his own—creating from deep within himself, with passion. His mosaics are celebrated around the world.
The mosaic is also a powerful symbol of Gaudi. Just as each colorful piece has its own hue, shape, and uniqueness, every person in our community contributes to the whole by being authentically themselves. It is in this vibrant diversity that a complete and beautiful picture emerges.

We respect the autonomy of every individual—including the autonomy of learning. Our foundation lies in intrinsic motivation, meaningfulness, and the full ownership of one’s educational journey.
Freedom
Freedom is the ability to choose—to be yourself and act according to your own free will. We connect it with responsibility, learning to respect both our own choices and those of others. We believe that true freedom grows from mutual respect and care.
Full Age Mixing and Voluntary Participation
We create an environment that encourages natural age mixing. Children decide for themselves what they will do, where, when, how, and with whom.
Joy
Gaudi means joy. Joy in discovery, creation, collaboration—and simply in being.
Acceptance and Nonviolence
We embrace ourselves and others as they are—in their uniqueness and differences. We foster an environment grounded in mutual respect and nonviolent communication.
